SUMMARY:PLAINFIELD BARN DAY
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY\, JUNE 18TH\nPlainfield Barn Day\nThe Plainfield Historical Society has planned a tour of 12 local historic barns\, and will be offering workshops by barn experts at two of the barns that are in need of “help”.\n\nThis is a great opportunity for owners of old barns who want to save and preserve their barns to learn how the experts analyze the needs of the barn and make recommendations to homeowners about what to do.\nIn addition\, John McSwain will be available at another barn on the tour to describe what was involved in repairing that barn foundation.\n\nAt the end of the day\, there will be a barn dance at Riverview Farm\, featuring Pooh Sprague’s band Sensible Shoes. The dance is a family friendly event\, so bring children\, grandchildren and your dancing shoes. For more information and to purchase tickets\, please go to LINK.\n\nPre-registration strongly advised so purchase your tickets here. Tickets will be available for sale all day at the Plainfield Town Hall\, where we’ll have an exhibit of photos and paintings of the many old and new barns we have in our small town. Registration starts at 9:30 and John Porter will speak briefly at 10:00am. Come enjoy an iconic part of New Hampshire history.\n—

SUMMARY:ART EXHIBITION AT SAINT GAUDENS NATIONAL HISTORIC PARK
DESCRIPTION:STARTING MAY 28\nArt Exhibition Opening at Saint-Gaudens NHP\nThe Saint-Gaudens Memorial presents the artwork of Courtney M. Leonard (Shinnecock) in BREACH: Logbook 22 | BOUND. The exhibition is on view in the Picture Gallery at the Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park from May 28 to July 12\, 2022. An opening reception and artist talk are scheduled for Saturday\, May 28 at 4:30 P.M. The gallery is located on park grounds at 139 Saint-Gaudens Road in Cornish\, NH. Information about park hours and fees are on the Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park website (nps.gov/saga). ;\n\nLeonard explores the intersections of marine biology\, the relationship of the Shinnecock Nation to the environment\, and the changes our communities face with globalization. This exhibition examines the many meanings and interpretations of the word “bound” and Leonard is interested in what it means to be bound to a place and to be bound for a new destination. The selected work in this show comes from her annual log documents which capture a visual journey of the Connecticut River\, from the fresh waters of northern New England to the salt water of Long Island Sound. Her multimedia installations challenge their audience to question and respond: Can a culture sustain itself when it no longer has access to the environment that fashioned its culture?\n\n Leonard earned a Master of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design and is an Assistant Professor of Art and Art History at St. Olaf College in Northfield\, MN.\n\nNH. Information about park hours and fees are on the Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park website: nps.gov/saga.\n————
